Xmind in 2026: which plan actually gets you the AI

The Vibe Gate·October 16, 2026·7 min read

Disclosure: I'm an affiliate for Xmind, so the product link below is a commission link. I haven't used Xmind for my own planning; I plan in plain text files that an agent can read. This is a read of Xmind's own pages and its public review record, checked on October 16, 2026, not a hands-on review.

Mind maps are having a second life. Not because people suddenly love bubbles and lines, but because "turn this messy document into a structure I can see" is exactly the kind of job AI does well. Xmind, one of the older names in the category, now sells that: text to map, summaries of pages and documents into maps, task breakdowns, even a presentation mode.

The catch is in which plan you need to get any of it. The answer is one tier higher than most people will guess.

Pro sounds like the upgrade that unlocks the product. For the AI, it isn't. Pro buys you exports and no watermark; Premium buys you the AI.

The plans, plainly

From Xmind's pricing page on October 16, 2026. The displayed prices appear to be yearly billing shown per month; monthly-billing prices aren't listed on the page.

PlanShown priceWhat you get
Free$010 online maps, 50 AI credits, Pitch limited to 5 slides, watermark
Pro$4.92/mo50 maps, exports to PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown and Office, no watermark, still 50 AI credits
Premium$8.25/moUnlimited maps, 500 AI credits/mo, editable Gantt, real-time collaboration

By my arithmetic the two paid plans come to about $59 and $99 a year. The free trial is seven days and applies to yearly plans only. Refunds are available within seven days on yearly plans, and not at all on monthly plans or on AI credit add-ons. That last rule is the one to remember: test the AI inside the trial, because a credit top-up you regret is not refundable.

There's no consumer lifetime licence. The only lifetime option is an organisation licence priced on quote, plus a discounted plan for non-profits and public bodies.

What the AI does, on the plan that has it

On Premium, Xmind lists text-to-map generation, summarising web pages and documents into maps, work breakdown, to-do lists, a pitch video from a map, and image generation. Its own FAQ says AI on mobile is "available soon", so treat the AI as a desktop and web feature today. The apps themselves run on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, iPadOS and Android, on up to five computers and five mobile devices.

How good the generated maps are, I can't tell you from use. What I can tell you is the honest test: paste the messiest real document you have, not a demo paragraph, and see whether the map would save you time or create a cleanup job.

The review record

Xmind holds 4.5 on G2 from 369 reviews and 4.5 on Capterra from 120, where customer service scores lower at 3.9. Its small Trustpilot page sits at 2.3 from 8 reviews. The complaints that recur across sources: data lost after a sync error, charges people didn't expect, slow support, and lag on large maps. Keep your own export of anything important.

For Arabic and right-to-left users

This blog has many readers who work in Arabic, so I looked. I could not confirm right-to-left layout support. There is a user request for RTL and Arabic on Xmind's support forum with no visible official answer. If your maps will be in Arabic, check typing direction and mixed Arabic-English nodes in the free tier before paying for anything.

The verdict

Buy Xmind Premium if you think visually and want the AI to draft the structure. Premium is the plan that matches the marketing; around $99 a year is fair if you'd otherwise build these maps by hand weekly.

Buy Pro only for exports. If you want clean PDFs and Markdown out of your maps and no watermark, Pro does that. It does not unlock the AI in any meaningful amount.

Skip it if you already plan in text with an agent. Many builders now keep plans in Markdown files that a coding agent can read and edit. A visual map is nice to look at, but a file your agent understands is easier to act on.

The one-line version

Xmind is a mature, cross-platform mind-mapping app whose AI lives almost entirely on the Premium plan; Pro is for exports, Free is a demo, and Arabic RTL support is unconfirmed, so test in the seven-day yearly trial.

One honest gap: the monthly-billing prices. The page shows only the per-month figure for yearly billing, so if you plan to pay monthly, read the checkout price before you enter a card.
